Between the stress of packing boxes, the upheaval in the house or apartment, the sorting to be done and all the logistics to be organized before the big day, moving can quickly become a real headache if you lack organization. Among the list of things to do during such a period, the administrative part is important. It is in fact necessary to notify various organizations a few weeks before your move but also after. In this article you will find all the good advice on who to notify in the event of a move.

The different organizations to notify before a move
Some procedures may take time depending on the organizations concerned, so you will need to inform some of your intention to move a few weeks before your departure.
Organizations linked to your activity (employer, URSSAF, etc.)
Unless your move occurs following a professional transfer or assignment, you will need to notify your change of address to your employer so that they can send you letters relating to the company: pay slips, new contract, etc. If you are unemployed, you will still have to declare your change of address to Pôle Emploi.
Finally, if you manage a business, you will need to inform URSSAF as well as the Chamber of Commerce and/or Trades of your move. If you have children, schools and other educational establishments should also be notified.
Health-related organizations (CPAM, mutual insurance, etc.)
Depending on where you are moving, you may need to change your Primary Health Insurance Fund. If you want to be correctly reimbursed by social security, you will need to inform them of your move. The procedures can be done directly on the ameli.fr website.
If you have a mutual insurance company or several mutual insurance companies within your household, these complementary health organizations must also be informed of your new situation.
The different funds to notify of a move
If you are a beneficiary of benefits from the CAF (Caisse d’Allocations Familiales) or the MSA (Mutualité Sociale Agricole), you will also need to notify your departure from your old accommodation by indicating the address of your new one.
If you are retired, the pension fund you depend on must also be notified. The same will apply to your supplementary pension organization if you benefit from it as well as your insurance funds.
Public administrations (town hall, prefecture, etc.)
If in your previous home you paid the tax on household waste, you will need to notify the town hall of your old address. You will also need this if you are an heir or owner of a funeral plot.
Then, whether for your income tax return, your property or housing tax or even your audiovisual license, you will need to inform the tax center of your change of address.
If you own a category A, B or C weapon, you will need to complete a weapons possession declaration to the new prefecture to which you will report.
Please note, forgetting this declaration is punishable by a fixed fine of 750 euros. The same will apply if you have a provisional document such as a residence permit.
The different service providers to inform of your departure
Both for your old home and your new one, you will need to notify your energy suppliers of your intention to move/move in. This will include the supplier of electricity, gas if applicable and water.
Your internet and telephone service provider must also be informed in order to modify contracts.
Banking establishments
You will also need to remember to notify your bank(s) of your change of address. You can do this online or directly in agency.
If you opt for a new bank closer to your new home, remember to give your new RIB to the various organizations concerned.
Organizations to notify after your move
Once you arrive in your new home, you will have to take other steps with certain organizations to notify them of your move.
The prefecture if you own one or more vehicles
If for identity cards, passports and driving licenses the change of address is not obligatory, it is however for the registration document of your vehicle. This process must also be carried out within the month following the move. You can do this on the internet or at the prefecture. If you forget, a fixed fine of 135 euros may be issued to you in the event of an inspection by the police.
The town hall of your municipality of move in
If you have changed municipalities, you will also need to inform your new town hall that you wish to be registered on the electoral lists.
Social security for your change of treating doctor
As the healthcare offering has been in sharp decline in recent years, many doctors are no longer accepting new patients. It is therefore better to take the lead and quickly declare your new doctor to social security.
CAF
As we mentioned earlier in the article, CAF must be notified before your move.
Please note that if you have children, you are entitled to APL or ALF for the new accommodation or that if you move between your 3rd month of pregnancy and the 2nd year of your last child, you will be able to claim the moving bonus. You will need to request it within six months of the date of moving into your new home.
If you do not have time to notify all of these organizations quickly, for greater security, you can also opt for a mail transfer contract with La Poste for a specific period.
