When summer comes to an end to give way to the beautiful colors of autumn, the time has come to replace little summer outfits in your wardrobe with warmer sweaters and pants. Although this seasonal change of your wardrobe may seem like a tedious task, it is nevertheless essential and very useful to help you find your way easily. Here are some tips for a well-organized wardrobe according to the seasons and which brings you simplicity and satisfaction at a single glance.
1. Sort out your wardrobe at the end of the season
It is inevitable, in this period of transition that is the change of season there also comes a change of weather. As we move from summer to fall, the days become cooler and the rain more frequent. It is therefore necessary that your wardrobe contains the clothes and shoes adapted to this new season. Sorting is therefore necessary! In fact, to get the most out of your wardrobe, taking inventory of your clothes can be very practical and make getting dressed much easier while saving you time.

The first step in this between-season sorting will therefore be to prepare boxes/cartons (or any other storage of your choice) for optimal storage. A box for summer clothes that you are sure to carry over to next year, a box for clothes that you will no longer wear and from which you can make a little money by selling them and finally, a third box for those that you prefer to give away.
When you are up and running, take out each item of clothing one by one and put them in the appropriate box. This step is the one that will allow you to save space in your wardrobe by saying goodbye to clothes that you will no longer need, so be strong and avoid keeping clothes saying to yourself “you never know, maybe I could wear it on such and such an occasion…”. Put them in the box to sell or give away, they will make people happy.
Of course, your wardrobe contains timeless items like these little t-shirts that you wear in all seasons. Make a pile of them, they will join the fall-winter clothes when it is time to put them away.
Please note that the advice we give you above also applies to your shoes.
2. What to do with summer clothes?
That's it, your clothes are sorted, all you have to do is sell and donate the ones you put aside and put away the summer clothes that you will carry over to next year. It's not always easy to find space for efficient storage and avoid a mess. There is a very practical solution to avoid cluttering your home with belongings that you will not use for the next 8 or 9 months, and that is to rent a storage unit. Your boxes will be safe and well protected there. Plus, you will have access to it whenever you want.
3. Classify your clothes by type or perhaps by color
If this between-season sorting of your wardrobe allows you to make space, it should also allow you to see things more clearly. What could be more pleasant in the morning before going to work than looking at your wardrobe and knowing in the blink of an eye what you are going to wear?! The classification stage is therefore essential, when you are looking for a particular item of clothing, you will not spend 10 minutes in front of your dressing room, guaranteed to save time!
There are several classification methods, whether your clothes are stored on a wardrobe or on a shelf. One of the most effective is to classify them both by type and color. To do this, simply group the plain dresses on one side, the patterned dresses on the other, or the striped ones and you do the same thing for sweaters, pants, blouses, etc. By playing with plains, prints, stripes or checks (it's up to you to find your categories) you will find your clothes very easily and you will instantly put together your outfit for the day. No more mornings where you arrive late for work because you couldn't find the right outfit! Note that there are practical dividers on the market that you simply need to put between the hangers and which offer the advantage of encouraging you to respect the chosen storage. And what a pleasure for the eyes when you open your wardrobe!
If you enjoy this plain/printed/striped sorting step, you can even push it as far as arranging the blue t-shirts together, then the greens, then the reds and thus create pretty gradients in your wardrobe. Another effective method for those who like to harmonize their outfit in the same tone is to classify your clothes by color but not by type. So you hang black skirts, dresses, sweaters and pants together, and so on.
4. A few additional tips
Tip #1
If you lack space to store boxes, boxes, bags of summer clothes that you won't put in immediately but that you still want to have on hand, there are several tips. Think in particular of the underside of your bed which can quickly and easily be transformed into a large storage space. Indeed, by having drawers on wheels under it (and along its two lengths), you create an area for storing your belongings which will prove very practical and very easy to access.
Tip #2
To avoid too long sorting at the next change of season, there are several tips to apply. For example, every time you spot an item of clothing that you haven't worn in the last three months, ask yourself if it's okay to keep it. Will you ever put it back? If the answer is no, give it away immediately or put it up for sale on a dedicated site.
In addition, as the next season looms, start storing in a separate compartment the clothes that occupy your closet but that you will soon no longer wear. By grouping them together, your mid-season sorting will be done much faster.
Tip #3
If sorting at each change of season doesn't appeal to you but you still want to have a top-notch wardrobe, you can opt for sorting by two seasonal categories. This means that you sort your clothes, shoes and accessories for the two seasons that are closest to each other, so spring/summer and autumn/winter. Therefore, sorting and changing wardrobes should only be done every 6 months. Remember to keep your timeless clothes and out-of-season clothing close at hand.
Tip #4
If you don't know what type of storage to put the clothes that you will no longer wear in the coming months, several choices are available to you. Vacuum bags are an excellent solution because they save considerable space. In fact, you can put several items of clothing in a vacuum bag, then you suck out the air and that's it. If you don't have a closet to store these covers, simply install a bar in your garage, laundry room or any other room of your choice. This solution represents an interesting space saving.

Also remember to use your suitcases. After all, isn’t their function to hold your clothes? If you opt for this solution, we advise you to slip inside scented sachets specially designed for laundry care (you will find them in many stores). This way, your clothes and other belongings will keep their freshness and will not take on a musty smell.
Finally, you can also store your summer clothes in plastic or fabric covers. These are particularly suitable for storing coats, jackets, jackets, etc. Be careful to protect them against moths by putting an anti-moth treatment inside. This way, you won't find your things riddled with small holes when you take them out again.
